Before the BET Hip-Hop Awards Weekend in Atlanta, Vibe Magazine held its “From The Block To The Blogs” event on Friday at the W Downtown. Esteemed Journalist, hip-hop historians, rappers, digital media strategist and ivy league intellectuals came together for a one of a kind dialogue. The topic of discussion range from engaging our youth to vote, the influence of social media to the role of corporate investment in our community and government regulation of the internet. Internet Neutrality was the hot topic of the day and everyone agreed it would not be in the best interest for corporation to be given more control over internet access.

X-Clan member Paradise Gray spoke exclusively with Rasha Entertainment about what he felt were pertinent issues that need to be address in our community. Paradise is a community organizer and Hip-Hop historian as well as founding member of The Black Watch Movement.

The 4th Annual YGEA Awards took place on Saturday, September 25 at Morehouse College. The YGEA Awards staff would like to thank everyone who came out and supported the event. “We were up against many odds but at the end we had an overall good show states Executive Producer, Silveree Benson.
The performers for this year were: Cristyle, Gloss da Boss, Tavaria, June Fifth, Muffy ft Cartier, Ebony Love, William Myles & YPOP, W.H.A.T.T., Righetous Noize, ATL Bomb Squad, Yung Tone, Ray Rush, Blue Dynasty Step Team, and Comedian Small Fire. 50 Tyson Has Autism - What's Your Excuse?

I knew from the first time I heard 50 Tyson say, "this is a sing I made up,” I knew that there was something a bit off about him. Because I knew something wasn't quite right, I could not make fun of him in the same way that I make fun of most wack rappers.

In the past I have worked in the education system, but more specifically with autistic children. When I found out 50 Tyson was autistic, I was amazed, because the children I used to work with could have NEVER made up songs and put them on YouTube. They were extremely low functioning and lucky to be able to recognize shapes. There are high functioning people with Autism that lead regular lives with minimal assistance but how many have become famous for rapping - 1 - 50 Tyson.

People found his music entertaining enough to share it with others and his videos have reached more than 6 million views on YouTube alone. He has even made it to national TV, with one of his videos appearing on Tosh.0, where mainstream rappers like Fabulous and Bizzy Bone have also appeared.

The Problem: People are really trying to battle 50 Tyson. WTF!! He has autism. Let that man be. The following video is of a person (I can't even call him an artist, rapper or anything) is battling 50 Tyson. His name is "Ex Con Attempted Murder." WTF! This man is by far worse than 50 Tyson.

The Big Problem: Rap music (I'm not going to even say Hip Hop) is regressing. It seems to have developed Alzheimers. The lyrical content and subject matter have regressed to a point where people with special needs are able to shine in entertainment. Could it also be that the audience is regressing? YES! Another day at the office begins with the usual chatter of who should be featured as a artist at the offices of OMGP WTF. The process that happens at the round table is often gut wrenching and at sometimes violent. Like the time Ms. ( not gonna say her name) got made enough about one of my suggestions that she through a cd a my head. I assume she was doing this because she hated the group so bad or that she loved hip-hop so much. Anyway however her passion was displayed that day, I still have a lot of respect for her views on hip-hop and now understand the pecking order at the OMGP WTF blog offices. So as I was was doing some research at a unnamed record shop( which usually makes my allergies act up) I came across a interesting album artwork cover. What do you know, it was from the good people at Stones Throw Records. I immediately bought the vinyl and made a b line for the basement area that doubles for the basement area of both the OMGP WTF offices and the Multi-Man tha Skipso offices. I found the esoteric Multimanthaskipso, on the one's and two's of his technique turn tables spinning a array of classic hip-hop joints. What a great time to get a listen to the vinyl I had just bought. Classic, Classic Madlib production is how to best describe the Strong Arm Steady, Madlib produced album, "Stoney Jackson"...The emcees of Phil Da Agony and Krondon dominate this latest effort with Mitchy Slick's presence not often represented as much as the other two. Strong Arm Steady, is a Cali( California) based group with Mitchy Slick reppin for San Diego and both Phil and Krondon reppin for L.A. The music of this group is a healthy alternative to the often gang dominated hip-hop scene....Madlib does the production in standard form as said by Multi. So here we gooooooooo the group is called Strong Arm Steady, The album is the Madlib produced opus called "Stoney Jackson"...Pedro Parker out...Oh yeah and to the person that flatten my back wheel on my scooter, thanks for making me have to occur extra bill money this week to get it fixed...........

Just the other day, we at the offices of the OMGP WTF blog had a heated argument in the offices about free-styling in regards to being a emcee. Once the crazy guy from the basement Multi-Man tha Skipso walked in the offices he had a few choice words about how important it is and how it effects the climate in hip-hop today. The following are excerpts from Multi-Man Tha Skipso's tirade in our offices. "So who believes free-styling is some bull or doesn't make sense? Raise your hand!!! You two guys over there with your hands raised, you two are fired, pack ya ish and get the hell out of here. Yeah Gash gave me that authority. Anybody else feel the the same. Okay, its the thinking that those to clowns have that has hip-hop in the stupid commercial stuck state that it is in now. As a emcee, I feel...Hold up I know that free-styling is what every emcee needs to be able to do. It makes interviews more interesting, it makes the process of song writing more intricate also. Imagine you listening to the radio on your way home in traffic and you hear your favorite rapper, rapping off the top of his head(free-Styling) about being stuck in traffic. See this is true talent and what music should be about in the first place. I once seen a drummer from Tha F.A.C.U.L.T.Y. of Nu High( a local band) go head to head with there lead emcee on the mic. As I looked at the crowd in attendance I understood why this art form was so important and so lost. The emcee and drummer switched patterns so many times that the audience experience 5 songs in 5 minutes without even knowing it. So I say this to all of you who feel that free-styling isn't important. Why spend money to see a show and hear exactly what u have on the cd in your car, when you can spend money to see a show and hear additional music. Real emcees freestyle and hip-hop needs it more on a daily basis". With that said and seeing the passion that Multi, expressed I now understood where he comes from with his sometimes unrealistic demands for perfection at this blog offices. Today we at OMGP WTF want to salute Duck Down Records for doing their thing for 15 years. This group has brought some of the best hip-hop gems ever to your local college stations and personal i-pod players. SO after a game of paper scissors rock Pedro Parker lost and had to do what no one else in the office wanted to do. I Pedro Parker was force to go to the basement of our office's and interview MultiManthaskipso. I found Mult with his ever present mask on smoking a black and listening to music from AHZ the New Face of Sound and Tha F.A.C.U.L.T.Y. of Nu High. After being asked what the hell I was doing here and responding with, "I just wanted to interview you Multi in regards to Duck Down Records being in the game 15 years" Multi nodded his head and we conducted the interview that follows. PP: What does Duck Down Records mean to you Mult? MM: "Duck Down Records means alot to me famila, its like Banana Fruit Cake!!! ummmmmmm Animal!!!, ummmmmmmm Wowwwwwwwwwwwwww!!! Their company and label of artist are able to merge the essence of hip-hop with different styles and still stay true to what hip-hop is meant to sound like. I can't listen to a Boot Camp Record without a hoodie, Timbs or at least a NY Yankees fitted on. Its like Brooklyn's dopest rappers with a few outsiders that make hip-hop for me and you. Matter of fact, get the hell out of my basement so I can listen to that Duck Down Records shit buddy. Oh yeah by the way, your girl looks like she has snot in the box. Now beat it!!!!" The DeBarges are a family of musicians who's pleasant looks and wonderful talents took us by storm in the 80's.
First came older brothers Bobby and Tommy who were in a group called Switch who was signed to Motown. Next four of the younger siblings Bunny, Mark, Randy and El were signed to Motown as well and were later joined by James who was 17 at the time. In the mid 80's Motown introduced us to yet another DeBarge... Chico. After dropping his first two albus "Chico DeBarge"(1986) and "Kiss Serious"(1988) we didn't hear from Chico for a long time. Then there was the Chico that most of my readers come to love in 1997 "Long Time No Here" followed by "The Game"(1999) and "Free"(2003). So while working on Chico's most recent album Addiction was released July 14, 2009 I was more than happy when the folks over at Kedar Entertainment Group asked me to produce a new track for the R&B Legend. I did the track and called on Universal Motowns own Da Backwudz (Sho Nuff and Big Mark aka Aleon Craft) who happen to be personal friends of mine to bless the track with that Southern Hip Hop Feel.

If you are not familar with wikis, a wiki is a live encyclopedia that allows us the user to edit add and remove information on certainn people, items or subjects. Out of boredom the wife and I get a kick out of typing random questions in google and seeing what we get. Yesterday we typed... "Why does Nicki Minaj say pussy on your sideburns in the song bed rock?" and this is what we got:

correction:
Not quite. It's a bit deeper than that. In her King Magazine interview (linked below), she states, "I just happen to be blessed with a fat coochie." This can be visually confirmed in her infamous "lollipop" photo shoot.

So, more accurately, this verse is most likely a witty reference to the plumpness of her vagina's outer labia, implying that once she sits upon a face, her "fat coochie" will engulf it and extend to the sideburns. She opts to view this characteristic in a flattering light, instead of the usual, ho-bag/scallywag/whore interpretation that immediately springs to the average person's mind.

People who know me are familiar with my phrase, "Hip Hop's not dead... You just been listening to the radio". That particular phrase holds true until you set your radio to 89.3 FM 10pm-1am every other Saturday in Atlanta. In that case you will be Listening to The Beatz & Lyrics Show hosted by my dog, Jay Force. Some of you may have heard of Jay and lots haven't But since he hit the airwaves in Philadelphia in 1990 he has been given us nothing but pure uncut Hip Hop. A driving force in ATL's Hip Hop community, Jay Force is the hardest working man in Non-Commercial radio. With his accomplishments and international fame, Jay Force is more than qualified to have his own show on any of the commercial urban radio stations that systematically pump poison into our homes and cars, but it is his choice to remain on non-commercial radio where he can play good music because it's good. It's brothers like Jay that has influenced me to stop using the term underground when referring to Hip Hop. With listeners in Japan, Paris, London, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Brazil, The Philippines, Czech Republic, The Caribbean, & many others, how could you call real Hip Hop "underground". Thanks to Jay Force and others like him, real Hip Hop is international.

According to AllHipHop.com Beanie Seagull was in a car accident.

Philadelphia rapper Beanie Sigel was injured in a car accident last night, reps say.

Representatives for Sigel maintain a large tractor trailer truck ran his vehicle off the road. Sigel was not the driver of the car and sustained injuries.

The full breadth of those injuries is unknown, as is the exact location of the accident.

Far & Few Album Review

I went to The Atlanta Bench Thursday night and had the pleasure of copping a copy of the new album by 4-IZE, "Illuminated Animals". Now since I have moved to Atlanta in 1999 people been telling me I need to meat this cat. I haven't had the pleasure of a formal introduction but after rocking to this album for two days I feel as if I know him. Simply put, "Illuminated Animals" is easy listening hardcore Hip Hop. I didn't feel the urge to skip one joint. I suggest all head down to The Atlanta Bench and get a copy.

Most of my readers are familiar with me and/or my company OMyGahsh Productions. I feel as if I were born a musician, but as a geek at heart I have always been attracted to technology. Ever since my first computer, a "Commodore 128", that we had to hook up to our TV like a game system I know I wanted to control this technology the best I could. This need for control is what I believe has been the driving force to my knowledge quest. I started taking music lessons as a young boy because I wanted to be able to make the music I was listening to on the radio. By seventh grade I was introduced to something called MIDI. Simply put, MIDI is a technology that allowed the computer to record notes played from electronic instruments and allow them to be edited and played back. This began the merger of my love for music and my love for technology. Here I am at the age of 30 doing everything I love. Using technology to create good musc and entertainment for all. I hope you enjoy.

Every time I see him in Atlanta he is just coming from NY or L.A. or London or... you get the point. This brotha has never had a mixtape, but has pushed five albums hand-to-hand since 2000. One of the albums (Before The Briefcace) is available on iTunes and rumer has it that there will be two more albums this year. The story I heard was that while making the The Traveling Salesman album producers found two more albums worth of bangers he was hiding. Thats how Before The Briefcase and the still un-released Briefcase & Microphone came to be.

HipHopOfficial.com caught up with the Chef Raekwon to discover what it took to make “Only Built For Cuban Linx 2″. A lot of preparation and details were put into making this album. Its been almost 15 years since the release of the now classic Only Built For Cuban Linx.

Rae release is days away, as well as Jay-Z. I was privy to hear a few cuts off Hova album and was not impressed. I was also privy to attend Raekwon’s listen party to hear all the lyrical darts woven into the fabric of Scam Jones, Premiere, RZA and a few others beats. I have to admit Rae has a much better album then Jay-Z, but I doubt if the record sell will reflect that due to the fact that a lot of music fans buy into names and hype. With that said, I leave you with this video.

I been banging out tracks since 1996 on my Boss DR-5. Then I go an old ass Mac that was made in 89' that had Master Tracks 5 installed on it. That changed my life, I've every computer based sequencer and recording program I could get my hands on. By 2000 I was convinced that I had to have the "industry standard" for people to take my studio seriously, Pro Tools. The sound quality was great, but among many other problems The sequencer sucked. Then I bought Propellerhead's Reason, The greatest thing to ever happen to computer sequencing. It's like having an unlimited amount of rack mount sound modules at your fingertips, with a virgin tight sequencer. I bought 1.0, 2.5, 3.0 and now 4.0, all the while saying, "I wish they had a recording program.". Alas it's here, and yours truly was chosen to be a Beta Tester.

Take a look at the new face of Rap, The Young Cons. Please note that I did not say Hip Hop. While most mainstream Hip Hop/Rap gets attention for shiny rims, beef, drugs, and hoes; these Ivy League guys are getting national broadcast and press coverage for their political views and social opinions. The Young Cons are obviously short on talent, but it doesn't matter to the media because they care more about the message. What a concept!

I wish BET could recognize this notion and place Hip Hop artists with a message, who are actually talented in the forefront. I don't know what it is that makes people want to perpetuate human flaws and front them off as success, but Viacom has these generations in a trance.

I am not blaming Viacom, but each generation learns from what they see and hear.

There are plenty of enlightening Hip Hop artists with hot beats, extensive national fan bases and world wide followings, but Viacom chooses to promote buffoonery.

Jay-Z, Kanye, & Rihanna Land In Historical Queens, NY To Shoot Video

Deep in the New York City boroughs of Queens, it is not often you will find loads of heavy camera equipment and crews setting for what seems like preparation of a monumental event. It was, in fact, the area of choice for the filming of Run This Town, a single off of Jay-Z's Blueprint 3 featuring Kanye West and Rihanna.

The iconic three met to shoot the video in Queens Thursday morning (August 6) - the filming, however, did not take place in familiar neighborhoods such as Hollis or Queens Bridge. Instead, history filled the air as cameras rolled in the Civil War site of Fort Totten Park.

The theme for Run This Town seemed to be of rebellious or even militant sorts. As photos of the shoot quickly leak all over the internet, the trio of artists can be seen in black-clad attire; with Rihanna sporting sleek leather shorts and boots - Kanye and Jay beside her disguised behind bandanas and sunglasses.

A setting of warfare - with overturned vehicles and enraged fires - was only complimented by the mass amounts of extras Jay requested to have included in the scenes. It was said over 80 people (also dressed in black) were filmed "rallying the troops," all to support the likes of Hov, Rihanna, and Yeezy. The vision and direction of the video was led by Anthony Mandler.

Jay's Blueprint 3 is scheduled to be released September 11th.
